General Counsel
Brandeis University is delighted to announce our search for a highly skilled and visionary General Counsel to serve as the University’s chief legal advisor. Reporting directly to the President, this critical role involves advising the President, Board of Trustees, senior leadership, and key university stakeholders on a wide range of legal and compliance issues impacting the University’s mission and operations. This is a unique opportunity to be a strategic partner and thought leader at an institution renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and social justice.
As General Counsel, you will be responsible for managing legal strategies and ensuring compliance across various legal domains, including labor and employment law, student affairs, intellectual property, and NCAA compliance, among others. You'll play a key role in institutional decision-making, proactively addressing legal risks and supporting the University’s mission of research, education, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as a trusted legal advisor to the President, Board of Trustees, and senior leadership.
• Manage legal issues across the University, including governance, labor law, research, student life, and contracts.
• Oversee the Office of General Counsel, providing leadership and ensuring high-quality legal services.
• Navigate evolving legal landscapes, including higher education regulations, technology, and privacy.
• Uphold Brandeis's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and represent the University’s core values.

Skills & Qualifications:
• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school; licensed to practice law in Massachusetts.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant legal experience, including litigation, with 3-5 years of management experience.
• Proven expertise advising CEOs/Presidents and governing boards.
• Strong communication skills and commitment to ethical leadership.
