Institutions pursue increasingly complex research collaborations and explore emerging areas of commercializing. At the same time, new federal regulations, enforcement actions and audits continue in areas such as human subject research, drones, conflict of interest and research misconduct. Harmonizing institutional efforts in legal and practical ways can be both exciting and challenging.
This program—the essential legal update for college and university counsel and administrators with responsibility for sponsored research and technology transfer at their institutions—will examine the impacts of these changes and provide suggestions to permit innovation while fulfilling institutional obligations.
- Dr. Kathy Partin, Director of the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) in the Department of Health and Human Services, will open the workshop, sharing her goals for ORI and her plan for working with the higher education community to foster responsible conduct of research.
- Mindy Bickel, Associate Commissioner for Innovation Development at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, who oversees the agency’s outreach to universities, will join us for a conversation about campus collaboration.
