Speaker Biographies

John HoJohn Ho, a member ("partner") of Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC's New York office, represents management in all aspects of Labor and Employment Law, with specific experience in wage and hour matters including the FLSA, New York Labor Law, federal and state prevailing wage audits; and misclassification of independent contractors. He served as a prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of the Solicitor, where he prosecuted FLSA cases and was part of the litigation team that recovered approximately $4 million under the FLSA on behalf of New York State Environmental Conservation Officers. John has defended numerous types of employers including colleges and universities, non-profits, and public sector employers against dual filed collective actions under the FLSA and the New York Labor Law. John also routinely assists higher education institutions with internal wage and hour audit and compliance strategies. John is also a member of the Wage and Hour Defense Institute covering the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Ho frequently lectures on FLSA and Labor Department audits including before the American Bar Association, Labor and Employment Law Section, New York State Bar Association and American Institute Conferences. He was a contributing editor to The Fair Labor Standards Act, 2002-2010, Cumulative Supplements published by BNA Books and has served as an associate chapter editor for 2011-2015 Cumulative Supplements. He also served as a wage and hour track coordinator for the ABA's 6th and 7th Annual Labor and Employment Law Conference.


King AmyAmy King, Vice Chancellor for the University of Denver (DU), is the principal steward of the University of Denver's human capital. She provides strategic leadership for human resource initiatives directly related to the vision, mission, goals and values of the University. Her work focuses on transforming human resources into a leading partner on campus as the institution navigates its way through the changing Higher Ed environment. King has more than17 years of experience in employee relations, compensation, recruitment, employee services, policy practices and guidelines, strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, change management, and union matters. She received a B.S. in organizational management with an emphasis in human resources from Colorado Christian University. Additionally, she earned a certificate of advanced study in alternative dispute resolution and a master's degree in leadership and organizations with a specialty in human capacity in organizations from the University of Denver. A frequent guest speaker and presenter, King has served in several board capacities at the Chapter, Regional and National level for CUPA-HR. She serves on the board of trustees at Denver's Porter Adventist Hospital and serves as the Board representative on the Medical Executive Committee and Governance Committee.


Marc MootchnikMarc D. Mootchnik is the Assistant Vice Chancellor & Chief Counsel - Human Resources for the California State University. Mr. Mootchnik has represented several California State University campuses, currently serving as counsel for San Diego State University. He also leads the team of CSU lawyers responsible for advising the system on labor and other employment matters, including wage and hour, collective bargaining, benefits programs and other policies. In addition to the gamut of employment matters, he advises his campus clients on matters ranging from First Amendment, real property issues, contract negotiations, and also oversees litigation. Mr. Mootchnik has been practicing for over 26 years, obtaining his B.A. from Long Beach State University and his J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.
