Tamara J. Britt was appointed General Counsel and Vice President of Teachers College on July 1, 2022. She previously served as Vice President of External and Legal Affairs at Manhattan College and has held positions as Associate General Counsel at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and as an attorney in the New York City office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, where she specialized in white-collar defense, enforcement matters and bankruptcy litigation.
Britt received her B.A. from Hampton University, an M.P.A. from George Washington University, and a J.D. degree from Rutgers University School of Law. Tamara is a current member of NACUA’s Board of Directors.
Lauren Hartz is a Partner at Jenner & Block. As a skilled litigator, she handles cases in trial and appellate courts and in arbitration involving complex statutory, administrative, and constitutional law questions. She has presented argument in federal courts of appeals and defended wins before the US Supreme Court. She also has significant experience litigating and resolving class actions.
Lauren represents and counsels colleges and universities as they navigate high-profile campus disputes, conduct sensitive investigations, and defend lawsuits over free speech, sexual misconduct, antitrust, and more. She has achieved victories for institutions in the Ivy League, Big 10, Big 12, and the ACC. She routinely advises higher education institutions and private foundations on affirmative action, gender equity, and faculty diversity. She is an active member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys.
With deep subject-matter knowledge, Lauren anticipates changes and develops strategies in evolving regulatory environments. Before joining the firm, Lauren worked in a civil rights enforcement role at the Justice Department, at a plaintiff-side firm, and for multiple non-profits and legal aid organizations. That experience makes her a well-rounded advocate with sharp insight into how her clients can work collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve results.
