Barbara Lee

Barbara Lee is Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Rutgers, The State University
of New Jersey, which is the top academic leadership position at the University. Dr. Lee is a
distinguished professor of human resource management, and has taught higher education
law and employment law at Rutgers since 1982. She is the former Dean of the School of
Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers and former Director of the Center for Women
and Work. She is coauthor of The Law of Higher Education, a former NACUA Board
member, served as chair of the Editorial Board of NACUA's Journal of College and
University Law, and is a NACUA Fellow. She holds a PhD in higher education
administration from The Ohio State University and a J.D. from Georgetown University.
Professor Lee has been a frequent speaker at NACUA annual conferences and Continuing
Legal Education meetings, She has authored or coauthored 17 articles for the Journal of
College and University Law, as well as an additional five mongraphs, NACUANotes and
pamphlets. She is past chair of the Higher Education Committee of the New Jersey Bar
Association and has won the top award from Rutgers University for her scholarship and
service.

Dr. Lee has served as an expert witness in academic employment litigation cases, and for a
decade was of counsel to the law firm of Edwards Angell Palmer and Dodge (now Locke
Lord).
