Dear Colleagues,
As the year comes to a close and the holiday season approaches, I am counting my blessings. It has been such a privilege to work with the dedicated and talented NACUA staff and to see, every day, the unique blend of camaraderie, collaboration, trust, and generosity, that defines the NACUA community.
It is rare to encounter a community of people who are so selfless with their time, who are tireless in their work, and who engage with colleagues with such generosity. I am grateful to be leading this organization, and to have such a talented team devoted to the work of supporting you, our members. Whether you serve on a committee, speak at a NACUA event, or engage with the community virtually on NACUANET or via email, your contributions and presence are greatly appreciated. I also want to extend special thanks to those members who have stepped up to serve in leadership roles. Whether it’s chairing committees, serving on the NACUA Board of Directors, helping to organize programs, or writing for NACUANOTES or JCUL, we could not do it without you. For that we are eternally grateful.
In the coming months, our focus will remain on supporting the needs of the unique NACUA community and providing a professional home that members can always turn to for guidance and information. We will continue to develop programming and resources that are relevant to your work in these challenging times. Looking ahead, registration is now open for our Winter 2024 Virtual CLE Workshop: Employment Law. Higher education employment and labor law continues to be ever changing either through rulings from the courts or changes in regulations or regulatory interpretations. College and university leaders must navigate a complex landscape, one that is evolving in response to technological advances, economic pressures, societal changes, and judicial and legislative shifts. Join us for this virtual workshop, February 7–9, 2024, to explore the wave of new regulations and amendments to existing laws that promise to significantly impact the way colleges and universities do business. In addition to exploring this changing landscape, the Workshop will also highlight legal developments in some of the more standard areas of employment law practice.
For those of you who serve as your institution’s general counsel or deputy general counsel, please mark your calendars for the General Counsel Institute, which will take place March 20-22, 2024, in Denver.
As we reflect on the challenges of this year, we wish for peace in the year ahead. I hope your holidays are full of joy and that you have a chance to recharge before the new year. I look forward to seeing you in 2024.
