Dear Colleagues,
As we enter the new year, I am looking ahead at the many programs, events and opportunities that await us in 2024.
Last week, we held the Winter 2024 Virtual CLE Workshop. We were joined by 375 attendees, and with sessions ranging from the intersection of AI and employment law to the changing landscape of accommodations after Groff, it was an incredible workshop. To those who participated, it was wonderful to connect virtually with so many of you and I hope the workshop helped hone your employment law skillset.
In March, the General Counsel Institute (GCI) will take place in Denver. This year’s GCI marks a return to in-person programming after our shift to virtual in 2022. Although I enjoy connecting with members virtually, being able to connect offline, in real life, is a special privilege. It’s difficult to beat face-to-face meetings and I plan to continue my efforts to connect with you, our members, in your communities, and at your institutions. As I continue to travel, I look forward to getting to know you and to having more conversations about your work and how we can support you. Whether it’s in San Diego, New York, Chicago, Vermont, Atlanta, or North Carolina, NACUA members have welcomed me with open hearts, shared their thoughts about how to make the amazing community that is NACUA even better, and served as sounding boards on more issues than I can count.
From a blockbuster Annual Conference in Chicago to our AI webinar, to briefings with the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education, 2023 was a wonderful year. I continue to be amazed by the generosity, collegiality and talent of NACUA members.
While I can’t predict everything that 2024 holds for higher education law, I am confident that together our community will be able to rise to the challenges we face. In closing, some happy news for anyone who is as excited as I am about this year’s Annual Conference in Columbus: Registration will open in early March. I look forward to seeing you in the coming months.
