Dear Colleagues,
With the holiday season in full swing and the new year rapidly approaching, I find myself reflecting on the things I am grateful for and what lies ahead in 2025.
I want to express my gratitude to both you, our members, and to the NACUA professional team for making our community the unique space that it is today. When I think of NACUA, I think of members’ generosity with their knowledge and time, and
how tirelessly you work to serve your institutions. The willingness to collaborate, contribute to colleagues, and the sense of camaraderie I have found in the NACUA community has been a true gift. The work our members do every day makes a real difference—both
to the institutions you serve and to society.
I would like to extend a special note of gratitude to the members who have volunteered to serve in leadership roles. Without the service of members on committees, editorial boards, and the NACUA Board of Directors, we would not be able to provide
the NACUA programming and resources that members rely on. For that, we are incredibly grateful.
When the new administration takes office in January, new regulations and shifts in the legal landscape are sure to follow. These developments are certain to impact the institutions you serve, and we are preparing to be as agile as possible in supporting
you through resources such as briefings, pop-up discussion groups, and more. Our next pop-up discussion group will offer a space for members to discuss how counsel might prepare for changes to DACA and how to address challenges faced by members
of the campus community who are undocumented or in mixed-status families. Registration is open to all NACUA members.
The recorded sessions from our Fall 2024 CLE Workshop on Sponsored Research and Technology Transfer are now available. They are free to those who registered for the Workshop and available to others to purchase. These recorded sessions offer a deep repository of updated information on sponsored research and technology transfer in the higher education space as well as some
initial thoughts about what may be in store from a Trump Administration.
Additionally, we are thrilled to announce that registration for the 2025 Winter Virtual CLE Workshop: AI and Higher Education Law is now open. Taking place virtually January 29-31, 2025, it will feature sessions on all things at the intersection of
AI and higher education law. New for 2025, in addition to the virtual CLE workshop, we are offering a 2-hour long pre-workshop primer session on the fundamentals of AI.
For your in-person CLE needs, the Spring 2025 CLE Workshop: Discrimination Law will take place March 26 - 28, 2025 in San Antonio, TX with registration opening early next year.
Another exciting development for 2025 that you can look forward to is a brand-new program that we are piloting for mid-career legal professionals in higher education law. The Campus Counsel Leadership Intensive (CCLI) is unlike any other program
that NACUA has held thus far; it is an experiential learning program that will run through the year with both virtual sessions and an in-person pre-conference session at the 2025 Annual Conference in Seattle, WA. Keep an eye on your inbox for
additional information; more details will be forthcoming in January.
I would like to emphasize that community is what we make of it. At NACUA, in particular, our members are active in creating a sense of community that is welcoming and infused with a spirit of professional generosity. Whether you are new to NACUA or
have been a member for many years, please consider joining an affinity group. Our affinity groups are open to all members and are a fantastic way to build community both virtually and offline.
I wish you a restorative holiday season and peaceful new year filled with love.
