CEO Corner Volume 148

One DosunmuDear Colleagues,

The start of a new year always brings new beginnings and change—both good and bad. In difficult times and in happy times I find comfort in community. Both for myself and my members, I hope that the NACUA community is a space where you are always able to find support and a sense of belonging.

In early January, the Greater Los Angeles wildfires brought about an unprecedented level of devastation and impacted hundreds of thousands in southern California. To our members in the southern California region, you and your loved ones are in our thoughts. We are aware that there is still a long road ahead before the wildfire season is over and you are able to rebuild. If there is something that NACUA can do to support you, please reach out to me at oad@nacua.org.

Also in January, the Trump Administration returned to the White House for its second term. Though not yet 100 days out from Inauguration Day, there has been an incredible flurry of new executive orders, regulations, and changes to the higher education landscape in our country.

The pace and volume of these announcements has been dizzying. Regardless of the size of your office, it may feel as though there aren’t enough hands on deck, or enough hours in the day to engage with these pressing matters that impact the institution you serve. To help you during this time, NACUA has started the Transition Updates: The First 100 Days series. The series comprises a broad range of resources, from new virtual programming tailored around the latest executive branch developments to judicial developments, and more.

It is easy to feel overwhelmed when the regulatory environment is shifting so quickly around us, but you are not alone. Navigate this new era with the NACUA community and don’t hesitate to utilize NACUANET for questions you may have that are not yet covered by existing resources. NACUANET is one of the most popular corners of our virtual community and it serves as a fantastic way to reach out to other NACUA members and connect. In early spring, we will be sending out details on a new, improved user experience for NACUANET so please keep an eye on your inbox.

If you, like me, enjoy in-person opportunities to learn and meet NACUA members, consider joining us in San Antonio, TX this March for the Spring 2025 CLE Workshop: Discrimination Law. From March 26 - 28, 2025 we will convene at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa to learn, connect, and discuss the constantly evolving landscape that discrimination law professionals are navigating. Register by February 28 to take advantage of the early registration rate.

See you in San Antonio!
