Ted A. Mallo

Ted A. Mallo holds four degrees from The University of Akron: a BS in Biology in 1967, MSED in 1968, a Juris Doctorate in 1972, as well as an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree in 2016.  Employed with The University of Akron from 1969 to 2017, Ted served as its first chief legal officer, a position he held for 40 years, retiring from UA as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of the Board of Trustees.  His career includes his appointment as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio for 34 years.

During his time at UA, Ted held many other positions, including Chief Ethics Officer, Industrial Security Supervisor, and Faculty member.  As a member of the Graduate Faculty, he taught graduate courses in Higher Education Law and School Law; and, was an adjunct member of The University of Akron’s School of Law. 

Ted has held numerous elected and appointed positions throughout his career, including serving as legal counsel and chairing the committee to incorporate the City of Green, Ohio and serving twelve years as  member and two years as president of the Green Local Schools Board of Education.  He served multiple years as a member of the Commission of Judicial Candidates of the Akron Bar Association and served in many  other elected and volunteer positions in city and county government and local civic affairs. 

Ted joined NACUA in 1972, and throughout his career actively participated in the work of many of NACUA’s committees, including participating as a speaker at annual conferences.  In 2016, Ted concluded his service as a Member-At-Large of the Board of Directors of NACUA.  

Ted and his wife JoAnn have been married 53 years and have three children and nine grandchildren.
