David Scott - 2004
David Scott is retiring from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey on July 16, after serving as its University Counsel for 20 years. Before coming to Rutgers, he served as Chief Counsel & Acting Director of the Office of Government Ethics, as a Senior Trial Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, an attorney in private practice, and an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia. He received his A.B, magna cum laude, from Harvard College and J.D. from Harvard Law School.
Mr. Scott was a member of the NACUA Board of Directors from 1993-1996. He also served on numerous committees, including Articles & Bylaws, Continuing Legal Education, Finance & Audit, Member Services, Nominations & Elections, Board Operations, the Editorial Board for The Journal of College and University Law, and, for three years, was chair or co-chair of the Committee on Professional Development. He co-chaired the Section on Governance & Accountability from 1992-1995.
Mr. Scott attended his first Annual Conference within weeks of arriving at Rutgers and has attended the conference every year since then, serving on numerous occasions as either a speaker or moderator. While at Rutgers, he has served as an adjunct lecturer for the undergraduate honors seminar, “Legal Issues in Higher Education,” and as a member of the NCAA General Counsels’ Advisory Committee.
NACUA is pleased to recognize the 20 years of service that David Scott has given to both Rutgers and NACUA by bestowing on him Life Membership in the Association. This award is given with the warmth, respect, and personal and professional admiration of his many NACUA friends and colleagues.
