John A. Beach - 1998
John A. Beach, of New York. John Beach retired this past year after practicing law full-time for more than 40 years. Following graduation from law school in 1957, he joined the law firm of Bond, Schoeneck & King, becoming a partner in 1965 and Chairman of the Executive Committee in 1983. Mr. Beach, for many years, served as legal counsel for Syracuse University and Albany Medical School. He was so respected and valued by those institutions that he served as Interim Dean of the Syracuse University College of Law from 1973-74, and as Interim President and C.E.O. of the Albany Medical Center from August 1989-November 1990.
Mr. Beach was a member of the NACUA Board of Directors from 1976-1978 and again from 1986-1988. He became an officer in 1982 and served as President in 1985-86. He also served on numerous NACUA Committees, including Finance, Honors and Awards (Chair, 1987-88), Nominations (Chair, 1986-87), Program (Chair, 1983-84), Publications (Chair, 1979-82), Editorial Board of The Journal of College and University Law, Member Services, Print Media, and the West Negotiating Task Force (Chair, 1994-96). He has spoken extensively at NACUA Annual Conferences and written extensively for the JCUL, as well as for other law reviews. Mr. Beach was the recipient of NACUA’s Distinguished Service Award in 1991 in recognition of his years of service and dedication to higher education, to NACUA, and to his profession. NACUA is pleased to acknowledge again those same attributes in bestowing life membership upon Mr. Beach.
NACUA is pleased to recognize and honor Mr. Beach, by bestowing Life Membership upon him for his many years of volunteerism on behalf of the Association, and for his lifetime of dedication and service to the profession of law and higher education.
