Position Summary

The Associate General Counsel for Labor and Employment will work with the Deputy General Counsel to assist in a variety of areas including labor (NLRA/LMRA, collective bargaining, unfair labor practice issues, union elections, etc.) and employment (civil rights laws, ADA, FLSA,, FMLA, OSHA, EEOC, workers’ compensation, employment policies, employment agreements and appointments, etc.), Title IX, administrative investigative matters regarding the United States Department of Education and Office of Civil Rights, student and academic affairs (student disciplinary process, policies, process, compliance etc.); NCAA compliance; law enforcement and Clery Act compliance, transactional, and a variety of related litigation matters. The candidate will conduct research, render advice, represent the University’s interest before administrative agencies, and work with outside counsel. Works closely with the University’s senior administration, faculty and staff. 

Required Education and/or Experience

• J.D. Degree from an accredited law school. 

• Current license to practice law in Louisiana. 

• Licensed in good standing without any instances of suspension, revocation, censure or other adverse events in any jurisdiction. 

• Minimum seven (7) years’ experience as a labor and employment attorney.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong legal research skills; must have the ability to provide thoughtful and independent legal advice.

• Excellent analysis and negotiation skills; 

• Excellent written communication skills; strong verbal and written communication skills in presenting complex legal principles in laymen terms to senior administrators.

• Executive presence and strong interpersonal skills and experience interfacing with a wide variety of key stakeholders; a strong collaborator and team oriented.

• Highest degree of judgment, integrity and ethics.

• Strong work ethic with a “can do” attitude. Self-starter, quick study and ability to manage deadlines.

This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 29PREM.
