Position Summary

The University of Arkansas Office of the General Counsel is accepting applications from qualified attorneys to serve as Associate General Counsel.  This position will advise campuses and units on legal issues with a primary focus on employment-related immigration matters.  Responsibilities will include preparing petitions and applications for submission, responding to post-filing requests or decisions, and supporting immigration compliance.  The position will be in-person, located at the University’s campus in Fayetteville, Arkansas, consistently rated one of the top places to live in the U.S. 

Minimum Qualifications

* Juris Doctor degree from an accredited American Bar Association law school

* License to practice law in the State of Arkansas or the ability to become licensed in Arkansas within six months of employment

* Five years experience in the practice of law

* Significant practice experience in employment-related immigration law

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in higher education-related legal issues and related governmental compliance

* Familiarity with general employment law

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Knowledge of immigration law and processes, including H1B visas and permanent labor certifications, and employment law

*Ability to work with campus units to design and implement effective employment-related immigration systems

* Ability to conduct effective legal research and provide sound legal advice

* Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including developing and offering training

* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work professionally under pressure

* Ability to maintain confidentiality

* Maturity, sound judgment, good work ethic and ability to work closely with the other members of the General Counsel’s Office

Additional Information

Salary is negotiable depending upon experience and is subject to statutory line item maximum, within an anticipated range of $125,000 to a maximum of $140,000 per year.  Benefits package includes university contributions to health, dental, life and disability insurance, tuition waivers for employees and their families, 12 official holidays, immediate leave accrual, and a choice of retirement programs with university contributions ranging from 5 to 10% of employee salary.
