Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw, Georgia) is seeking an Assistant or Associate Legal Counsel to assist with managing a wide range of transactional and commercial legal work for the university. This includes contracting, procurement, corporate sponsorships, and data privacy and protection. The incumbent will also provide professional legal advice and expertise on various matters, including but not limited to student affairs issues, grants, donor requests and bequests, open records requests, employment, and other assigned matters. This position reports to the Vice President and Chief Legal Affairs Officer.

The incumbent should possess the following characteristics, knowledge, and skills:

  • Exceptional judgment, which includes exercising confidentiality and discretion and practicing law in a manner that reflects honesty, integrity, and reliability; 
  • Self-motivated, independent team player; 
  • Demonstrated ability to address complex legal issues using analytical skills and reasonable judgment;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough and detailed legal research;
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a large complex organization;
  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills.

 

Minimum Education Required:

Juris Doctorate or the equivalent from a school or college of law accredited by the American Bar Association

Minimum Experience Required:

Five (5) to Seven (7) years relevant experience practicing law.  Position title (Assistant Legal Counsel or Associate Legal Counsel) will be commensurate with years of experience.  

Minimum Licensure Required:  

Must hold a current unrestricted license to practice law in Georgia or be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain licensure in Georgia within one year of the hiring date.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience as legal counsel at an institution of higher education or other public entity
  • Experience in the practice of law in commercial transactions, procurement and contracting for a public entity
