Basic Function: Supports the implementation and delivery of the association’s legal programming and publications, with a focus on furthering the association’s strategic objectives. Assists with ensuring that NACUA members
receive high-quality information on higher education legal developments, particularly those resulting from legal, regulatory, and sub-regulatory transitions.
Reports To: Senior Legal Resources Attorney – Publications; Director of Legal Resources
Term: This is a term position with a duration of 18 months from hire through approximately the end of 2026. Possibility of consideration for a permanent position at end of the term, depending on the needs of the association.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Excellent and comprehensive benefits package.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops, creates, pilots, evaluates, and refines member programs and services that are aligned with and advance NACUA’s strategic plan.
- Assists with editorial activities for NACUA’s publications portfolio, such as copy editing and cite checking.
- Serves as primary moderator of NACUANET, the popular online discussion portal for members. Provides resources and assistance in the form of replies to posts when appropriate.
- Assists in collaborative programming efforts between NACUA and other higher education associations, and on external outreach to governmental agencies regarding issues of interest to NACUA members.
- Develops and implements selected NACUA continuing legal education programming, including pop-up discussions, briefings, webinars, CLE workshops, and the Annual Conference.
- Positively contributes to the continuity and advancement of NACUA’s unique and positive workplace culture.
- Participates in weekly meetings of legal resources team, and as needed in meetings of the staff responsible for implementing NACUA programming.
- Works on special projects and assumes additional responsibilities, as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills
Essential
- A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- At least one (1) year as a licensed attorney in good standing in at least one state.
- Commitment to NACUA core values.
- Excellent legal research, analysis, and writing skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments effectively while working on multiple and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to work cooperatively and function successfully in a team-oriented, fast-paced work environment with both members and staff.
Preferred
- Familiarity with higher education legal issues.
- Prior experience employed by a higher education institution, law firm serving higher education clients, or related government service.
- Prior educational programming experience, especially legal education programming, experience with the planning and implementation of live and online programming, and/or experience working with volunteers to implement programming.
- Prior legal journal or other relevant writing and/or editing experience.
- In addition to an overall affinity for technology, proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and with the efficient use of other technology tools.
This position requires residence near, or relocation to, the Washington, DC area.
NACUA offers a hybrid schedule, which requires working in-office on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please note that NACUA’s President & CEO retains discretion to amend this schedule.
