The Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) at the University of Notre Dame is dedicated to fostering a campus environment that is inclusive, respectful, and compliant with all federal and state laws and university policies. As a Senior Equity Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with relevant federal and state laws, as well as university policies, while managing day-to-day responsibilities associated with Title IX, Title VII, and other regulatory complaints of harassment and discrimination. Reporting directly to the Director of Response and Resolution, you will work closely to uphold a fair and neutral process for all parties involved.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary investigator for cases alleging discriminatory and sexual harassment, including but not limited to sexual assault, sexual misconduct, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and conduct that creates a hostile environment.
  • Develop investigation plans for each assigned case to gather relevant evidence.
  • Conduct interviews with complainants, respondents, and witnesses, ensuring a prompt, fair, and neutral process throughout.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records of the investigatory process, including file preparation and documentation.
  • Prepare comprehensive written investigative reports that identify issues, summarize evidence, and make findings.
  • Provide periodic updates on the status of complaints and investigations to appropriate staff.
  • Receive and process inquiries and complaints from the campus community and third parties, ensuring a fair and neutral process for all parties involved.
  • Collaborate with other campus offices to coordinate and execute the university’s response and investigation of complaints in accordance with university policy and procedure.
  • Assist in conducting campus trainings on sexual and discriminatory harassment.
  • Assist with the annual review of policies and procedures to identify and integrate best practices in the investigation and case management process.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive university training program for students, faculty, and staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a preference for a JD.
  • Minimum 2+ years of progressively responsible experience in a related field
  • Knowledge and direct experience with issues related to discriminatory harassment, sexual harassment, and gender based violence
  • Knowledge and direct experience with mediation, alternate dispute resolution, and/or restorative justice practices.
  • Experience interviewing complainants, respondents, and witnesses.
  • Ability to engage in complex issue-spotting and problem-solving.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal and relationship management skills, and organizational and computer skills.
  • Ability to remain neutral and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply applicable laws and policies.
  • Ability to devise and implement procedures for the conducting of investigations and case management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and direct experience working with diverse populations, counseling skills, and interpreting federal regulations
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations with cultural competence and sensitivity.
