Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) invites applications and nominations for the position of Senior Vice President and General Counsel. MSM is seeking an extraordinary, mission-driven, collaborative, visionary, and entrepreneurial leader to partner with the MSM community in fulfilling its mission. The Senior Vice President and General Counsel is responsible for the leadership and management of all legal strategy and enabling strategic business growth and expansion at MSM and its affiliates. Reporting to the President and CEO, this role serves as a pivotal member of the executive leadership team.
The General Counsel is the highest-ranking legal executive at MSM and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of legal affairs, including:
- Business strategy, growth, and development
- Institutional governance
- Risk management
- Legal operations
- External business strategy and counsel relationships
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the organization’s growth strategies align with its overall mission, vision, and values. The General Counsel will collaborate with other senior executives at MSM to drive innovation and student success, improve healthcare delivery, and enhance patient outcomes.
Ideal candidates will possess the following minimum qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
- At least ten years of experience as an attorney, with at least five years’ experience as general counsel, or within the office of general counsel, in a complex integrated academic health center.
- Strong understanding of medical educational standards and requirements, patient privacy law, patient rights, data integrity issues, research administration, and conflicts of interest.
- Litigation leadership experience and/or Mergers & Acquisitions with corporate deal-making experience.
- Five years of experience leading teams.
- Licensed or license-eligible to practice law in the state of Georgia within a reasonable time after employment commences.
- Experience addressing strategic planning, partnership opportunities, funding, philanthropy, community relationships, and alternative funding models to help advance healthcare resources.
- A passion for scaling an organization with a vision for what can be achieved.
